Eating & Counting

These are a really easy, fun way for kids to eat fruit and veg. They are simple to put into a lunchbox and also can be used as an interesting way to work out quantities and counting.

I normally use toothpicks but it’s also possible to use bigger kebab sticks for larger food pieces or bigger quantities.

If working at subtraction, you could put 8 onto one stick then the child could eat one and count the rest until finished. You could say, eat 2, then count what is left on the stick.

It’s a good way to do multiplication too. If you are working out 5 times table, just put 5 on each stick, count and eat.

Remember to show your child how to pull the food from the cocktail stick and not to use their mouth. Never leave an under 5 alone when using them.
